Hindustani Classical Music which is also occasionally called North Indian Classical Music or Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet is the classical music of the northern region of the Indian subcontinent. It originated from the 12th century CE after it parted from Carnatic music, The classical music of the southern region of the Indian subcontinent. Hindustani music highlights improvisation and exploration of all aspects of a raga, the origin of Indian classical music was discovered in the Vedic literature of Hinduism. An abundant tradition of Indian classical music is originated in South Asia which now can be found in all corners of the world. As Muslim forces swept across the Indian subcontinent, traditional style met with Persian during medieval time hence Hindustani style was born.

  • Dhrupad:Dhrupad music is principally devotional in theme, it is an old style of singing commonly performed by male singers. It is often sung in brajbasha a medieval form of North and East Indian language, In dhrupad an ancient string instrument Rudra Veena is used. Lighter form dhrupad called as dhamar is sung during Holi, the spring festival.
  • Tappa:It is originated from the folk songs of camel riders of Punjab, Tappa is a form of Indian semi-classical vocal music. It is developed as classical music by Mian Ghulam Nabi Shori, Tappa’s sung by  Nidhu Babu were very popular in 18th  and 19th century Bengal.
  • Thumri: Thumri is a semi-classical vocal form begun in Uttar Pradesh, the lyrics are typically in a proto-Hindi language which is called Brij Basha, and are generally romantic.
  • Ghazal:It is the most common form of poetry in the Urdu language, it’s multiple variation vocal music popular across Asia and the Middle East as well as several other countries. It is popularized by classical poets like Taqi Mir, Ghalib, Sauda, etc.
