Hindi cinema, Chetan Anand is known as a filmmaker who did many experiments
with film content, technique and style and gave more than one great films like
Haqiqat, Heer-Ranjha, Hasee Zakhm, Qudrat. In
any film, the director's own thinking, his vision, his hard work, his
commitment and his perfection are completely visible, which makes that film
great and memorable. There have been some filmmakers whose every single film is
like a priceless gem. There is something in each of his films that makes him
special. One such producer was director and screenwriter Chetan Anand who is
considered a poetic genius. Chetan
Anand was born on 3 January 1921 in Lahore. Devanand, Vijay Anand's eldest
brother Chetan Anand, also had a sister, Sheela Kanta Kapoor, the son of famous
film director Shekhar Kapur. He studied Vedas from Gurukul Kangri University
and then graduated in English. Chetan Anand, who was his principal in the
college, considered him as his mentor, he was married to his daughter Uma. Before
joining the film industry, he did many things, he got a scholarship from the
University of London, for some time he also worked for BBC, after that he
taught subjects like English and History in Doon School, then wrote some
scripts and then Mumbai The journey to the city began. Actually Chetan Anand
wanted to join the Indian Civil Services, but after joining IPTA, he realized
that cinema can prove to be the biggest weapon in reaching his point of view to
the common people, then he thought of becoming a film director. Before becoming
a director, Phani Majumdar cast him in the lead role in his film
"Rajkumar". Neecha
Nagar, directed by Chetan Anand, was one of the earliest films on social
realism. The film starred his wife Uma, Rafiq Ahmed and Kamini Kaushal. This
was Pt. Ravi Shankar's first film as a music composer. The film won the
"Grand Prix" award at the First Cannes Film Festival and brought
Hindi cinema recognition internationally, with Chetan Anand also making a mark
as a director. In
1950, Chetan Anand's brother Devanand started his banner "Navketan".
Whose first film "Afsar" was directed by Chetan Anand. But this film
did not work, then "Aandhiyan" made under this banner also failed.
After that Chetan Anand changed his style a bit and he came out as an
entertainer. The first film of that genre was "Taxi Driver", which
was shot continuously for 35 days from morning to evening with a handheld
camera on the streets of Mumbai, this film was a huge success. After
this came "Funtoosh", but after that he had some differences with his
brothers. Then Chetan Anand separated from his brothers and formed his own
banner "Himalaya Films", whose first film came much later, but in the
meantime Chetan Anand directed "Arpan" and "Kinare-Kinare",
in these films he acted. did too. In fact, whenever he got the opportunity, he
directed as well as acted. Under
the banner of Himalaya Films, "Haqqat" which came in 1964, is still
placed at the first place in the films made on the war, its story was written
by Chetan Anand. These days the films based on war are based on
"Haqqat". It won the National Award for the second best feature film.
His last film was "Hathon Ki Rikkein", he also made a TV serial
"Param Vir Chakra" in which he once again focused on war and
soldiers. He wanted to make a film on Partition, his 6 songs were also recorded
but time did not allow. On 6 July 1997, he said goodbye to this world. Chetan
Anand was a poetic genius who enriched Hindi cinema with his perfection and his
